Pelvic floor physical therapy in Apex, North Carolina

Care for the months before the baby, and the months after

Unwind is three physical therapists who work with expecting and new parents. We look at how your body is carrying you now, explain what we find, and plan the next steps with you. Your baby is welcome at every visit.

Two chapters of care

Before the baby, and after

Pick the chapter you are in. Both begin with the same first visit.

Prenatal

Pregnancy changes how your back, hips and pelvis share the load. We help you understand what is going on and what to try, at the pace of your pregnancy, alongside your doctor or midwife.

  • Back, hip and pelvic pain as the baby grows

  • Pressure or leaking while you are pregnant

  • Positions and breathing to talk through with your birth team

  • Staying active in a way your doctor or midwife is happy with

Prenatal care

Postpartum

After the birth your body is still changing. We start where you are: how your stomach muscles, pelvic floor and back are working, and what to do about what you notice.

  • Leaking when you cough, laugh or lift

  • A stomach that feels soft or separated

  • Pain with scars, sitting or intimacy

  • Getting back to walking, lifting and running, once your doctor or midwife says it is fine

Postpartum care

Baby-welcome visits

Bring the baby. They are part of the visit.

After the birth, your baby comes with you. Feed, change or hold them whenever you need to, and we stop and start again. Another adult can come along to hold them while you move.

What that looks like

  • A private room where you can feed or change the baby

  • Space for a stroller or car seat by the door

  • Visits set around naps where we can

  • A partner or another adult is welcome in the room

Who we see

You might come to us if

  • Your back or hips ache while you are pregnant

We look at how you sit, stand and move, and show you what may help.

  • You leak when you cough, laugh or run

Many people notice this after a birth. We explain what is going on and what to try.

  • Your stomach feels soft or separated

We check how your stomach muscles work together and plan exercises that fit your day.

  • Sitting, scars or intimacy hurt

We hear this often. We listen first, and nothing happens without your say.

  • You want to run, lift or carry again

We build up what you do at a pace that suits your body, once your doctor or midwife says it is fine.

  • You have questions and no one to ask

Bring your list. We answer what we can, and tell you when it is one for your doctor or midwife.

Video visits

Video visits, in the states where we are licensed

Some care works well on a screen: talking through your plan, breathing and movement, and check-ins between clinic visits. Some is better with you in the room, and your therapist tells you which. We see you by video when you are in a state where we are licensed.

Where we are licensed

  • North Carolina, with Ayse, Nohemi or Yen

  • Virginia, with Ayse

Three physical therapists, one plan with you

Every visit is with a physical therapist, and you can ask for any of us by name.

A first visit

About an hour, from hello to a plan

  1. 01

    Step 1: We talk

Your history, your pregnancy or your birth, and what you want to be able to do. Take your time.

  2. 02

    Step 2: We look

How you stand, sit, breathe and move. Nothing is done without your yes, and you can stop at any time.

  3. 03

    Step 3: We plan

What we found in plain words, what to do at home, and what the next visits would cover.

Questions people ask first

Do I need a referral?

In North Carolina you can start physical therapy without a referral. Your plan may still ask for one, and we tell you before your first visit. If what we find needs a doctor or midwife first, we say so.

Does my plan cover this, and do you take Medicare?

We bill many kinds of plans, including most PPO plans, marketplace plans, Medicaid and Medicare. Your plan decides what it pays. We check your benefits and call you before your first visit.

What if I pay myself?

We give you a written estimate before your first visit, and you pay on the day. If your plan may reimburse you, we give you a detailed receipt to send in. Your plan decides whether it pays.

How long is a visit, and who treats me?

A first visit is about an hour with a physical therapist. Later visits are usually shorter, and your therapist tells you how long yours will be. You can ask for Ayse, Nohemi or Yen by name.

How many visits will I need?

It depends on what you are working on, how your body responds and how often you can practice at home. After your first visit your therapist explains what decides it, and you can change the plan at any point.
